This project looks into using cork as a material to develop a product for a local gallery gift store, The Baltic.
Research into cork made me realise how it is a very versatile and sustainably sourced material. Furthermore, research into its inherent properties and distinctive features led me to develop the bottle lamp.
My aim for this product was to get the average consumer more interested in sustainability in their daily lives. 'Bottle Lamp' promotes the idea of reusing and repurposing bottles to create an interactive and customisable lighting solution. Hopefully, by reframing these once-discarded objects in a new light, I can help change the public's perception of waste products while simultaneously increasing people's creative tendencies.
The lamp's functional success is mostly thanks to the elastic nature of cork combined with the slender, tapered body of the lamp. This allows for a variety of bottles to be used with the bottle lamp, no matter the size, shape, or material. Various real-world tests confirmed this, as well as the varied lighting effects caused by different bottle types.
